International customers

You are responsible for paying any VAT and customs fees your country charges. Refunds are not available for packages returned due to unpaid VAT or customs fees. If the package is returned to me, I can resend it upon payment of additional postage and handling fees. If the package is returned to the printer (unsigned copies), it will be unrecoverable.

Change of mind

Refunds are not available for change of mind. Please choose carefully, and pay attention to series numbers to ensure you receive the correct title.

Please note that we cannot provide exchanges for a different title or product, so we ask that you choose carefully.

Damage and defects

Due to the print-on-demand nature of this business, we ask that you check your product when you receive it and report any problems as soon as possible.

We will replace items if they arrive damaged or are defective to the point of being unreadable. Contact us as soon as possible with photos demonstrating the defect or damage, including photos of the damaged packaging*, and we will advise the next step for a replacement. In the event we are unable to provide a replacement, we will issue a refund.

Orders collected via local pick up are sold as is and are not eligible for damage exchange. A defect exchange for internal printing faults rendering the book unreadable may be requested unless the book was advertised as a defective copy.

*All products are checked for damage prior to packing, so damage in transit will be the result of damage to the packaging. If you do not provide proof that the parcel was damaged on its way to you and not after you received it, we cannot provide a replacement. There are no refunds for books you drop in the bath; we can only offer sympathy!

What constitutes damage

  • Visible crease marks on the front or back cover
  • Torn cover or pages
  • Water damage (staining, excessive page curling)
  • Significant dirt marks
  • Other damage that obviously impacts the reading experience (judged based on photographic evidence)

As much as we might love our books to be pristine forever, there are some small damages that are just part of being a book, and if we replaced every single one, far too many books would end up in landfill. Please respect the trees that give us the magic of reading! As such, we won’t accept damage exchanges for:

  • Slightly scuffed corners or edges on the cover (e.g. within 1-2mm of the edge)
  • Curving books. Is your book bent like a banana? It will flatten out. Store it lying down or press it for a week or two under a heavier book
  • Curling covers. These will also often recover by storing under a heavier volume, or by gently bending the cover in the opposite direction
  • Small scuff marks on the outer edges of the pages
  • One or two dog ears (Woof woof!)

If you’re not sure, please contact us, but the general rule is to consider how your enjoyment of the book is impacted vs the environmental cost of returning, reprinting and shipping a new copy. That’s all.

What constitutes a defect

We understand that sometimes books sit on the ‘to be read shelf’ for weeks, months or even years! We recommend that you flip through the book(s) when you receive them to ensure there are no major printing errors, as if it’s been years, there’s no guarantee your edition will still be in print.

A defect has to make the book either unreadable or aesthetically unenjoyable. There is obviously some room for subjectivity here, so here’s a guideline for what makes a defect exchange:

  • Pages missing
  • Text blurred, smudged or rendered in such a way as to be unreadable, except where that is the intention of the author
  • Incorrect text on internal pages
  • Incorrect cover art (presumably we will notice this before we send it to you!)
  • Significant trim issues, e.g. the text is cut off on a page

In any printing endeavour, there is a margin for error, so the following does not constitute a defect:

  • Occasional typos (you are welcome to let us know about them, though! Sneaky things.)
  • Local language variations (e.g. Australian spelling)
  • Slight colour variations on cover or internal paper/ink
  • Artwork trim variations up to 5mm all around
  • Minor variations in margin width or spine text positioning (e.g. series numbers might not all line up)
  • Variations in trim size of the book (e.g. book two in the series is taller than book one)

Who knows? Maybe one day, your minor defect will be a collectors’ item!

Shipping returns

Definitely need an exchange? You will be responsible for paying shipping costs for returning your item. Once the item is assessed and found to be damaged or defective, you will receive a refund for your shipping costs based on our standard shipping rates. We will not reimburse any amounts spent beyond standard Australia Post rates.

Please ensure you package the item(s) appropriately. If we can’t tell what was previous damage and what occurred due to poor packaging by you, you may not be eligible for an exchange. We suggest securely wrapping books in recycled bubble wrap or cardboard before placing in a mailing satchel.
